Flag

Founded in 2024, the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) is a British political party affiliated with the Revolutionary Communist International. The RCP is Trotskyist and not be confused with a similarly named anti-revisionist/Hoxhaist group the Revolutionary Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist).

The RCP uses a red flag featuring the party's initials (in a sans serif font) alongside a hammer and sickle.

Presentation

The Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) was founded in May 2024 as the replacement for the Socialist Appeal, the British section of the International Marxist Tendency (IMT), both of which were founded in 1992; the latter, having originally been named the Committee for a Marxist International (CMI), adopted its latter name in 2004 and shall not be confused with the International Socialist Tendency, another Trotskyist international, whose British section is the Socialist Workers Party.

Socialist Appeal had originally operated within the Labour Party until 2021 (the mode of operation called the "entryism", which the Labour Party often tolerates to some extent), when it was expelled as part of a wider purge of the groups which had supported the previous party leader Jeremy Corbyn. After the RCP was founded, the groups affiliated with the IMT in other countries began founding the parties bearing either the same or a similar name and the whole international was renamed into the Revolutionary Communist International (RCI) in June 2024.

The Flag:

On the RCP flag, party name initials are set close to the hoist and the hammer and sickle is close to the fly. The flag ratio and size of the charges may vary somewhat, but typically, the ratio is 3:5 or very close, while the charges are typically arranged so that the whole device be centered horizontally and the inscription be centered vertically, its distances from the top and bottom edges be approximately equal with those of the whole device from the hoist and fly edges. The shade of red is close to the FIAV color R+, perhaps a bit lighter.

Socialist Appeal

The flag of Socialist Appeal was red (the same shade as used by the
RCP afterwards), with its emblem in white. The emblem, which occupied
much of the flag field (about 3/5 of the width and about 4/5 of the
length), consisted of the words SOCIALIST APPEAL inscribed in oblique
letters in two rows, with the rightmost part of the bottom row
occupied by a slanted five-pointed star, all between two stripes with
the slanted edges.

Earlier version of the flag

[Socialist Appeal flag] image by Tomislav Todorovic, 17 October 2026

An earlier version of the flag employed the regular (i.e. non-oblique) version of the same typeface, with the two rows of text being right-aligned and the star, not slanted there, occupying the leftmost part of the bottom row. The two stripes were much longer and the whole emblem rotated counter-clockwise, the stripes being truncated near the hoist and the fly so that their shorter edges be parallel with the hoist and fly edges of the flag and look slanted in relation to the rest of the emblem. The truncations were so close to the flag edges that they were frequently not visible in the photos, making the impression that the stripes occupy the whole flag length; this was sometimes true for the hoist, if a portion of the flag field was used to make the sleeve for which no portion of the fabric was previously reserved.
